I’ll actively work against Lemmy and it’s developers and there isn’t much projects or organizations that are going to want to associate with Lemmy either.

This coming from someone calling people “basement sewage” a few hours ago. Its clear you lack the maturity to be a helpful part of any fediverse project.

The premise of the Fediverse is still: “run your own”. Lemmy is no exception to that. Creating a community is hard, so good luck where ever you will end up :)

I agree with this. Although I believe the developers and flagship instance might be in the way of adoption of Lemmy as well as for instances that are set up by people, which I elaborate more on here: https://lemmy.ml/post/70156/comment/61375

I agree with you some critics about the moderation on lemmy.ml, specially the north korean legitimation.

But I think you are mixing the (main) instance and the software. A more logical conclusion could be to decentralice Lemmy instances/comunities more. The software itself has not the problems you are talking about. Other free softwares are used by polemic/disgusting/troubling groups (WordPress, Linux, LibnreOffice, Firefox…) including fediverse ones (Matrix, Mastodon…) and we should not conclude that the software itself or the network is bad. Isn’t it?

Why don’t move to another instance? You have quite some interesting options already. Why don’t enforce other instances and comunities? Lemmy let’s you do that. All us agree on that!

In English, for example lemmy.glasgow.social (it’s as big as the non English instance I participate on). I think this instance could be a good place to build and grow English speaking communities.

26 instances listed here: https://the-federation.info/lemmy

Thanks for the-federation.info! No instance for me, sadly. If I had more free time, I’d set one up at tilde.fun…

https://lemmy.ml/post/69058 leaving this here to tell your tale, about how toxic you have been to so many people here

Also this https://lemmy.ml/post/69064

Believing and spreading propaganda denying current and genocides of the past, posting things like “defeat israel”, defending russia and china, pushing misnifnormation and propaganda in the dictatorship of Belarus’s favour and even supporting north korea.

you are the one believing in & spreading propaganda. the people here encourage each other to look past propaganda & listen to the people of the countries and people who understand the actual systems of those countries, instead of taking CIA propaganda and automatically thinking it is true.

for anyone reading this, let’s use the DPRK (north korea) as an example. you hear that it is a dictatorship. but that falls down immediately when you figure out how their government actually works. kim jong-un is not even the president! he is also not the premier (arguably the “top” of the three “top” positions in the government)! he is in charge of the military and the worker’s party (which is a position he is elected to). and about that, there are three political parties, by the way. and a worker can run as an “independent”. two-ish years ago there was an interview with a young man who lives in the DPRK. he said that he votes for kim and nearly everyone he knows does because they think he truly is the best person for the job.

see? once you start reading about the way things actually work, you realize that what you have read is not merely misleading but outright false.

Lemmy is just the gab of the left but as an alternative to reddit so they can spread their stuff.

this doesn’t make any sense. if we were simply trying to “spread our stuff” we would be on reddit doing so.

I’ll actively work against Lemmy and it’s developers

i had been polite to you but after this i say: good fucking riddance.

I’m not sure I follow, how does Lemmy as a software get affected by the political leaning of its developers? I can see this happening on platforms, but on decentralized services like Lemmy? Care to elaborate? (and yes, I am aware the main instance can have its rules and what not and they can lean one way or another, but that’s just that instance)

Also, not really sure what you mean by left and right. Are you referring to left and right regarding american politics? norwegian? Those lefts and rights are completely different AFAIK. (source: I’m a fellow scandinavian)

I’m not going to discuss anything in the thread, but I’ll explain a bit.

A) How does it’s developers affect the project and code

The problem is that the developers represent the software they are making. If they push anything or behave any way externally to the masses it’s going to reflect on Lemmy. But how Lemmy is set up also affects it’s ecosystem. With the ecosystem being how it is will mean the major community can make hurdles for other instances. The flagship instance is also where most people will end up, which means that most of the community will be on the flagship instance which the developers control, and all the biggest groups will also be on the flagship instance. This gives a lot of power to a group of developers I’m not sure will act in my best interest.

B) What do you mean in the political realm

Yes, this is tricky. Particurarly for us from Scandinavia. But I mean in terms of a extreme left even in Norway and Sweden. They’d be like like excluded from the red party in Norway and the equivalent in Sweden. I consider these what is called ‘tankies’ which I’ve never really met before now.

And with tankies I’m working with this definition:

A hardline Stalinist. A tankie is a member of a communist group or a “fellow traveller” (sympathiser) who believes fully in the political system of the Soviet Union and defends/defended the actions of the Soviet Union and other accredited states (China, Serbia, etc.) to the hilt, even in cases where other communists criticise their policies or actions. For instance, such a person favours overseas interventions by Soviet-style states, defends these regimes when they engage in human rights violations, and wishes to establish a similar system in other countries such as Britain and America.

The term is used to distinguish the rare individuals with these kinds of beliefs from communists more broadly (including Communist Party members), whose adherence to Soviet doctrine and attachment to existing “socialist” states is somewhat weaker.

It is always more-or-less abusive in the sense that those termed tankies do not use the term themselves, but it doesn’t have any particular bite (unlike, say, Trot).

The term derives from the fact that the divisions within the communist movement first arose when the Soviet Union sent tanks into communist Hungary in 1956, to crush an attempt to establish an alternative version of communism which was not embraced by the Russians. Most communists outside the eastern bloc opposed this action and criticised the Soviet Union. The “tankies” were those who said “send the tanks in”.

The epithet has stuck because tankies also supported “sending the tanks in” in cases such as Czechoslovakia 1968, Afghanistan 1979, Bosnia and Kosovo/a (in the case of the Serbian state), and so on (whereas the rest of the communist movement has gravitated towards anti-militarism). I wouldn’t be surprised if the tankies even defend Saddam Hussein.

Some of the people round George W Bush used to be left-wing, but they haven’t really changed their views much; they were mostly tankies.

for anyone reading that definition of tankie, i will provide some education:

“Stalinism” is not a thing.

to the hilt, even in cases where other communists criticise their policies or actions.

this is 100% false. “tankies” absolutely have criticisms of socialists states. but 1) they are just criticisms, not those based on false propaganda 2) are not shared aloud around liberals because liberals latch on to a single thing as if it is evidence that proves every one of their wrong thoughts

Some of the people round George W Bush used to be left-wing, but they haven’t really changed their views much; they were mostly tankies.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thank you for a very detailed and thought out answer.

In the end, we all do pick communities we feel at home at, so I do understand you, and I hope you will find a place where you will feel welcome and safe in. Godspeed.

Lemmy has never been about “free speech” and I dont know what made you think that.

We shouldn’t have to be concerned about this will be gab.

this won’t become gab precisely because there is no “free speech”. allowing “free speech” means that you allow things that are destructive and oppressive and the moderators & admins rightfully won’t allow that. that’s a good thing.

No free racist ableist sexist speech here, buddy. I can assure you of this, I have been observing Lemmy for a LOOOONG time, among other Fediverse projects and reddit clones.
