These thoughts are not original to me.

The Boomers were mostly raised by people who’d survived the Depression and WW2. The parents were deeply scarred by those experiences and told the Boomers they had to be ‘tough.’ The Boomers grew up in a world of plenty, and never had any idea of what ‘tough’ really was. Men like Reagan and Trump, who built their image as ‘tough guys’ never got within a mile of actual combat. This is perfect for Boomers who spent their lives avoiding real conflict while thinking of themselves as bad ass pioneers.

The other thing is ‘Future Shock.’ A sociologist named Alvin Toffler and his wife wrote a book back in the 1970s. The idea of ‘future shock’ was that as the Industrial Age died and the Digital Era bloomed, a lot of people would be unwilling/unable to adopt to the changing world. They woudl try harder and harder to keep the past alive, even if it meant killing the future.

Apparently, Trump had a beef with his National Security advisor, and that advisor was good friends with the admiral in charge of the pandemic office. So, to punish the Advisor, Trump closed down his buddy’s office.

Any lawyer still with Donnie has given up on a legal career. They are going to be media personalities, either getting paid by the Left to tell anti-Trump stories or by the Right to keep on defending him by maligning the system.

There’s an old political term in the USA. ‘Favorite son candidate.’ It means that anyone, of any Party, can usually count on winning their home district. As an example, Republicans in Georgia voted for Jimmy Carter. Also, New Yorkers are a contentious lot who seldom agree 90% on anything.

I live in New York City. Donnie was desperate to get famous since the 1980s. Back in the day, Wife #1, Ivana, was the star of the show and Donnie was the guy who carried her bags. He did everything to get his name in the local news every day, and was considered a joke by just about everyone. He lost his home town by 90% of the vote.

Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter despised each other, but when it was time to open the Carter Library Carter welcomed the sitting President, and Reagan gave Carter a great speech. No one thought they’d changed their minds about each other, but everyone applauded the show of unity.

The current crop of GOPs make Reagan look god the way Charles Manson makes Al Capone look good.

Mitt was happy to pal up to Trump in 2012. He even made cute little jokes about not needing a passport to travel in the Red States [wink wink] Now the poor man is SHOCKED that his pal isn’t a good person.
