I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

Note: I’m moderating a handful of communities in more of a caretaker role. If you want to take one on, send me a message and I’ll share some details. :)
Oh
Well in that case I’m a lot more meh about this. Thanks!
Why not digitize and still keep the originals?
That’s where I’m at. Why not both? Redundancy is good,
Paper copies are good to have till they’re no longer necessary (edit: and apparently these aren’t necessary anymore)
Digital copies are also useful for obvious reasons
Eh, it’s probably good to have regardless?
It’s less about being careful around the car and more about how you might interact with it. For example, honking the horn or flashing your beams wouldn’t have the same effect. On that note, it might be nice to have some way of telling a self driving car to temporarily use elevated sensors or something, the same way a horn tells a driver that something is wrong. As long as there’s a way to prevent abuse of the system
I don’t know much about these lights, but we COULD use some new standards in general with how many things have changed with cars in recent years. Brake lights on electric vehicles being another thing to consider.
That “gentle horn” everyone wants being another
What?
What I hate to see, even in this thread, is people turning on each other in this “us vs. them”, “you’re either a part of the pact or you’re against us” nonsense
Let’s all remember why WE ALL CHOSE to get on the fediverse and build it. The strength of the fediverse comes from the freedom for each instance to choose how to run things. My understanding is that no one in an instance is harmed if some other instance chooses to federate or defederate from Threads.
I hate Meta. I also know that Meta doesn’t need to do anything to take down the fediverse if we do it ourselves.
Guess I need to find and close that account now
There’s some benefit to having it closer to where people live, but yes it would make more sense on a larger area in one spot (ex. Government owned school rooftop or parking lot)
Saving a click:
By doing so, you’ll quickly realize that about 49% of the massive $365 billion portfolio is invested in just one stock: Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL).
Well that’s an odd and inflammatory headline to use for the issue
I think this is only a small part of their fediverse experiments
There’s a lot that a browser could help with here, or even better apps and tools to make things easier
Edited my comment to fix that
What would be better for AE? I don’t do any video editing
Copying the image here, this seems like a decent and thorough list.
The ones I recognize are Affinity stuff (got recommended by someone on lemmy a few months ago), Krita, Procreate, Blender, PDFx-change one
This should be justification enough for any enterprise company using Dropbox to dump them overboard
We share your pain in Canada with our telecom companies
The money would have come from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund program (RDOF), but the FCC writes that Starlink wasn’t able to “demonstrate that it could deliver the promised service” and that giving the subsidy to it wouldn’t be “the best use of limited Universal Service Fund dollars.”
The FCC decision sounds like a good thing in this case, also because Starlink isn’t being managed responsibly
The technology itself is cool, and I hope some other companies can build off that work to meet that need. There are a lot of existing companies that take advantage of those living in rural areas, many of which don’t have other options or much disposable income
Not from California, what happened? Why was the program implemented and then scrapped?
While digging through the new Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 release, I managed to surface a hidden “scanning for deceptive apps” page under Settings → Security & privacy → More security & privacy. Once enabled, this feature will apparently check “app activity for phishing or other deceptive behavior.” This will apparently be done by scanning the app for certain signs of deceptive behavior. Google says that “scanning runs privately right on your device” and that if phishing or other deceptive behavior is found, “some app info is sent to Google Play Protect to confirm the threat and warn app users.”
Is that phishing? Sounds like a lot of work to make an entire phishing app when you could use a webpage
I haven’t ever found Play Protect to be useful, but I’m fairly careful with what I download. Maybe others aren’t that lucky
Every country is dealing with this issue to some extent, and the same countries may also have state actors running their own fleet of sockpuppet accounts / astroturfing campaigns
Another downside to this (in addition to the sockpuppeting itself) is that populist leaders can accuse legitimate activists, journalists, and criticism as sockpuppeting/astroturfing.
The standard should endure past this stage. It’s not necessary now, but it would be good to start getting used to some kind of a symbol now
Eventually when cars move past this stage, then we’ll need it
