I got an award!

I went winter camping with a scout troop a few weekends ago. Some of the kids slept out in snow shelters to complete their winter survival training. I built my own shelter and slept out with them just to see if I could handle the cold. I’m proud to say that I survived in comfort.

When the kids were awarded their winter camping patches the scoutmaster also awarded me an honorary patch. The best part was my son’s reaction: he had a big smile on his face and clapped hard for me when I accepted the patch.

Where did you make this one? Did you take a class, or find a blacksmith willing to tutor you, or what?

It’s getting harder and harder to enjoy activities on a casual basis.

(The hill where I learned to ski now has demand pricing. I have seen day passes up to $200/person. 😭)

On one hand, no harm is being done. It’s possible this is a temporary situation due to ClubsAll being young and in development. Also, all our data on Lemmy is public anyway; we cannot stop others from scraping it.

On the other hand, on principle I don’t like one-way interaction and the way ClubsAll presents Lemmy content as their own. It feels deceptive. Defederation would be a symbolic way to protest that behavior.

I am torn. At the moment I am slightly in favor of defederation.

At one time they had open registrations, so spammers were taking advantage and setting up shop there. It looks like the instance now has a sign-up application. I have unblocked them. Thanks for noticing!
