I may have already bought a new Mac mini if it didn’t cost $400 to upgrade the ram and hard drive space to something respectable.
I’ve used my M1 iPad with stage manager with my external monitor quite a bit, and it smashes this old Mac mini on opening and closing apps and whatnot.

I feel like I remember seeing this project right when I got this computer, but I didn’t look too far into it. I’ll have to check it out.
I do have a little worry that running the newest MacOS would make this little, old mini run pretty slow. I need to do some research.
I’m kinda of in the same boat.
My “main” computer is a M1 iPad at this point. It’s fast, and I can do all my day to day things on it. If I want to play games I do have a PC for that, but Windows isn’t that “pleasant” to use so I don’t spend much time with it beyond games.
I was reminded how much MacOS is just a pleasant experience a couple months ago when I found a sale for old mac minis. They had a 2014 model for $60. I put a new SSD in it, and I’m typing on that machine right now. It can get Monterey, but nothing newer. But that still lets me send texts, and the machine unlocks with my watch when I wake it up.
All that to say is: I’ve now been looking at buying a brand new Mac Mini, but the memory and hard drive charges are insane. They always have been, but it’s just ridiculous at this point.
I have a 2019 car, manual transmission, knobs and switches for climate and heated seats, and a touch screen for carplay. It’s the best.
I had the grandfathered in YouTube Red plan from years ago, but I was paying just via the App Store so there was the Apple tax. The price there was going up to $18/m, so I canceled and will renew in about a week (when my normal payment is due) directly from YouTube. I honestly haven’t really thought about the price in a while so I don’t realize it was already $12/m that way (I think), and going this new route the price change is just $1 more for me.
But I think it’s worth the no hassle with no ads on every device. I go to friends’ houses and they put on YouTube with ads, and I don’t know how they live like animals like that.
I’m in more than one group chat with android people, and it’s fine.
It’s just that you can’t use some iMessage features. But nothing is really broken.

I’m the same way. I use YT on my AppleTV, and I’m an adult with money so $14 isn’t that bad. That’s basically one double quarter pounder meal these days.
Do I want to see the price increase? Of course not. But I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.

I’ve had an AppleTV for about five years+ now and have yet to see an ad placed on the main screen.
It’s true you can’t really control who uses AWS and you’ll end up on sites that use it. But it’s so easy to not buy anything from Amazon directly or from other stores.
Their shipping services aren’t even that good any more from what I hear (I haven’t bought from them in years).
A great solution is just to stop buying from Amazon. Like, anything.
Chances are you did survive before Amazon was a thing. It’s possible.

I hate those knobs, but I’m also lucky to just drive a simple standard car right now. It has a touch screen for sat nav (Carplay/Android Auto), but volume and climate controls are all physical.
$100 he still votes trump in the end.
I’m sure republicans will get right on trying to give the people more benefits.
