The simplest solution right now is to uninstall the upgrade to the Google TV Launcher application under the my apps section in settings for the Nvidia Sheild.
At the same time disable automatic updates in the playstore app, this way the specific TV Launcher app won’t update.
Currently this is the app responsible for showing you ads on your homescreen and playing you full screen ads.
My recommendation is to also downgrade your Nvidia Sheild to 8.2.3, here is a excellent guide below.
My solution last weekend when I saw this post was to downgrade both my sheilds to 8.2.3, I never liked the adds on the sheilds main homepage tbh but have gotten used to the as time passed.
In this process though once I downgraded I noticed the adds displayed once again on both my sheilds. This was because the android tv launcher app downloads a update. To get around this I disabled auto upgrade of apps on my sheilds and denyed the upgrade of the Google tv launcher and removed the update. No more adds on the launcher.
I have a feeling this is how google will push full screen adds through their launcher app in the play store.

Took about 30min on my second sheilds once I figured out the first sheild after 2 hours.
Most of us are just to tired at the end of the day to do anything. Paying bills, barely affording rent or food, and being stuck in a shit job. Not to mention a commute that sucks 2 hours out of our lives everyday.
This is why I feel nothing ever changes in north america, people become complacent in everything thats around them and can be improved upon.
If only people would get angry and organize, but I get it we are all tired working 9-5 everyday with long commutes and paying to much for everything. At the end of the day we just want to sit down and switch off.
Giant propellers in the sky kill whales got it, but propellers underwater are fine right? Behind a large cargo ship right?
Makes sense as to why airplanes no longer use propellers as well.
Don’t forget about the playstore app updates, these should be set to not autoupdate.
