  • I get you.

The Supreme Court held that the First Amendment protects lies, except in narrow circumstances, such as when there’s a duty from a trust relationship between the parties or from a statute or contract.

False speech is a valuable tool of rhetoric and entertainment and it’s in that sense it should be protected. When used unfairly in the context of a power imbalance, in bad faith, for the purpose of benefiting the speaker by manipulating listeners to their detriment, such speech has as much First Amendment value as falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater: none.

I have no problem criminalizing and imposing civil liability for such speech, let a jury decide what’s true and false, whether it had any morally defensible social value.

  • Where’d you get that, prosecuting liars?

Not what I said. With my magic wand, you can still lie, anonymously or not anonymously.

If it’s anonymous, you have no way to gain followers or be seen as any different from anyone else shouting anonymously into the internet void. There’s no link to your name, no profile, no way to even see one anonymous poster’s prior posts/content.

If you post lies using your account, your lies are attached to your real name and identify and you at least cannot lie about who you are, because everyone only gets one internet account, like a federally issued unique token that you must input when making an account on any website. Again, in this scenario, I have magic wand. I could certainly be done tech wise, maybe with biometrics.

  • Oh fuck off lending tree. Made up nonsense.

Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? Oh, Tesla bad? Yeah, Tesla bad. LendingTree bad too. It’s spin and propaganda for the mortgage industry. They publish clickbait “research” using non scientific metrics to reach whatever conclusion they set out to reach, usually it’s just shitting on blue states. They frequently reach the opposite conclusions of credible researchers with no explanation as to why they created their own formulas when perfectly valid, standard formulas exist.

  • The laws we have require an imminent threat against a specific person.

We need new laws to tamp down the blatant lying.

If like to see a law that everyone gets one official internet account and it’s tied to your real identity, and you can still post anonymously but anything posted anonymously has no username attached to it. Just “anonymous.”

If you want likes or comments or followers, or if you want to have any kind of identity at all attached to your post, it must be your real identity.

  • YouTube is fully enshitified. Useless app.

I open the vanilla app on someone else’s computer the other day. Not logged in, in private browser mode, and the algorithm was immediately suggesting clips from Fox News and one of those loser Ben Shapiro types.

Even trying to find videos now. The search results seem to be clogged up of junk. Used to use it all the time to find a 30 second video for how to do some procedure or something. Now every single video is 10 minutes long and it’s some idiot talking for 9 minutes about something unrelated and somewhere in the video buried between bullshit is 1 minute of useful content.

Came to YouTube because it was faster and easier than reading the manual but that’s just not the case anymore.

  • This is correct. I was down with that post until this same sentence. Dude started off on the right path and then just went 180 in the wrong direction.

Israel is the sole democracy in the middle east, defined as a flawed democracy (same as America) by political science.

If we stopped supplying it with weapons and might, it would be overrun by Iran and the Israeli people would be killed to the last. Iran will never stop arming and funding terrorism against Israel. Any apparent respect Iran shows to Israel’s borders or legitimacy is an act, a pretext of peace, an armistice really, until they wage total war against Israel. Iranians man, don’t let the world have anything nice. It is not in America’s national interest to let the only democracy in the region fall, and lose any hope for human rights in the middleeast.

  • What does that even mean?

Ownership is compromised a bundle of rights. If it’s your bundle, you can split them up however you want, sell whatever kind of limited or unlimited licenses that can come up with, and this applies to real, personal, and intellectual property.

If it’s not theft, why does the greed and unfair practices of the industry matter? Why does there need to be any justification or excuse?

Should definitely have a right to repai; with any other property right you generally have a duty to maintain the access to your interest. I recently unlocked a bunch of premium features in my car. HD radio, comfort window roll down (rolls down 2" with a tap") auto tailgate close (had auto open, but not close, had to hit a button on the lid to close), auto side mirror tilt down in reverse, roll down windows from keyless entry, close tailgate from keyless entry.

If I understand the interface at all, it’s pretty openly accessible (if you have the right OBDii port adapter and software, which ironically you need to buy a license for). Code looked fairly straightforward, and by that I mean it looked like other computer code I’ve seen. Wonder what the original price was for those extras were from the dealership, probably over 10k.
